A Message from CMA’s New President

Members and friends of the Catholic Medical Association,

I would like to extend a heart-felt thanks to Dr. Michelle Stanford, for her service to the Catholic Medical Association as president the last two years.  She has given countless hours of her time and talent leading the Catholic Medical Association.

As I begin my term as “Chief Steward” of the CMA, I reflect on the greatest gift during this Christmas season and culminating in the Epiphany: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son” (John 3:16).  The three kings recognized the manifestation and returned this great gift with meaningful worldly gifts.  Christmas is about God’s greatest gift to us. As we contemplate that Jesus was born in a lowly stable with awe and wonder, we learn to trust in God and that he comes to the humble.

The theme of my presidency is stewardship.  When we use the word stewardship, we think of financial gifts, however, stewardship has a greater and broader meaning.  Stewardship is protecting something that is entrusted to one’s care.  This starts with being stewards of our family and others.  We cannot serve others well, unless we serve those that are closest to us.  We are also asked to be stewards of our patients in our medical practices.

The CMA directors, advisers, and committee chairs will be meeting at the Winter Board Meeting on January 16th and 17th.  The theme of our meeting will be Stewardship. This includes being stewards of our fellow CMA leaders, stewards of our central office employees, stewards of our membership (especially our younger members- the future of the CMA), as well as stewards of our financial resources.

As we begin this New Year, I would ask that you pray for the CMA leadership, office staff, and myself.  This includes not only our national but also our local guild and state leaders.  And I would also ask you to pray for a fruitful board meeting in Dallas, that our leadership will make prudent choices for the future of the CMA.

In Christ,

David Hilger, M.D.

President
