CMA’s Medical Mission Interest Group gears up for another great year of presentations to discover various medical mission opportunities for members. The first presentation of 2026 will feature Deacon Gary and Dr. Cindy Nosacek, CMA members who have been going to northern Uganda on mission for almost a decade.
Since 2018, the Nosacek’s have been going to the town of Padibe to work among the Acoli people in northern Uganda which is still recovering from the effects of a civil war that ended in 2010. Once or twice a year, the couple goes for short-term missions of up to one month, where they help assess the medical needs and reporting back to the Global Solidarity Committee of Three Holy Women in Milwaukee, WI, which supports these missions. It has been a collaborative relationship that has lasted over 15 years.
“Dr. Cindy Adyero” as she is called, works along with the healthcare professionals of SS Peter and Paul clinic while “Deacon Gary Okot” helps the parish priest. Their Acoli names have meaning. “Adyero” means “one who gives of herself” while “Okot” means “one who brings the rain”, something that is essential among an area with subsistence farmers. The work of the Nosacek’s has also been featured in The Pulse of Catholic Medicine, most recently highlighted here.
The presentation will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, January 28 at 8:30pm. To sign up to attend and receive the Zoom link, register here.
